One cannot ignore the call of the wild.

Oh, how I long to be deep inside the forest. My inner beast craves the untamed beauty of the wilderness, yearning to roam freely and find solace in nature's embrace. But for now, I must remind myself of a simple truth: “Be happy with the little mercies strewn your way.” It’s a Christian philosophy that resonates deeply in moments like these.

It’s a rare privilege to sit under the open sky and watch birds and bees. Even though I can’t go into the woods yet, these small, commonplace encounters bring me comfort. Each bird that flits into view feels like a gentle reminder of nature’s boundless beauty, even within the confines of our daily lives.

The forest will call me back soon, and I will return with unrestrained joy. Until then, let me share with you the winged wonders that have come my way. ( In the early sixties till late seventies, it was very common they nested behind St, Marys School. Then they disappeared. I recorded a solitary pair in 2005 and then again in 2009, a single bird. This year, I recorded one in Torna and the other at Minni Nakki.

(Winter visitor. Uncommon. Five birds were seen at Salgaon on 20/01/2002, and three were seen in the Sanctuary on 21/01/2002. Not recorded by Butler(1875). Indian Vol 2 (March-April 2006) This bird I photographed in Achalgarh Area on the 5th March 2014.

( Recorded a pair in Torna 14 March 14. Uncommon. I have no idea if anyone has recorded this bird in Abu Previously, This is the first time that I have observed this species in all my years of birding in Mount Abu.
