Booted eagle - Hieraaetus pennatus

The Raptors are here preying from the Abu sky,
The Booted Eagle with its flashy white headlights,
All the way from Europe loses his way to the
The abode of the Gods. He comes in two hues. light morph from below,
And the dark morph, which usually winters in India.

The booted eagle is a medium-sized mostly migratory bird of prey with a wide distribution in the Palearctic and southern Asia. Here in Mount Abu, it's probably a vagrant or winter passage migrant. Not a commonly seen eagle here. To read more on this bird click:Here

Ashy Drongo with its forked tail shining.
Sallying through Abu's winter sky,
Master manoeuvre catching prey on the wing,
A fierce protector of its kith and kin.

Ashy Drongo is a winter and passage migrant. It's not a commonly seen species here in Abu. One may encounter a single bird or sometimes a small flock of them. They seem to get on well with our native white-bellied Drongo. Their diet is mostly insects. They feed like flycatchers, taking large insects they love bees. Like all Drongoes, these are aggressive and fearless in nature and will attack any other predator that poses a threat to their nest or fledglings.
