Birding in the first two weeks of September 2021 Mount Abu.

It was utterly drenching for the Abuites from the 1st of July until the end of August because of the monsoon. The weather department predicted one thing, but nature did another and there were overcast days and thunderstorms in August..

There has been a slight lull in tourist activity, but not for long. Weekends are boon days as thousands flock to this abode to enjoy the lush greenery and cool temperatures. Migrant birds have not yet appeared this year. Alpine Swifts, Barn swallows, Eurasian hobby, harriers, warblers, flycatchers, and ducks have yet to appear. Raptors and vultures who visit here have been absent.

Hopefully, I’ll record our winter visitors later in September. Enjoy my collection for the first week of September 2022.

Raptors, vultures, migratory ducks and warblers have arrived in Mount Abu.

The last week of September 2021 saw some specular thunderstorms accompanied by heavy spates of rainfall. Looks like a prelude to climate change. The last week was more of a monsoon scenario, whereas, at this time of the year, the monsoon usually peter off. Our post-monsoon winter migrants have arrived. A few hobbies, Sparrow hawks, Harriers, Buzzards and water birds. I’m on the lookout for the warblers and flycatchers, as I have collected not much data for these small migrant species.
