9 January 2022.

It’s cold to venture outside before ten in the morning as the ole bones are creaking. The cannon turns ice cold too. Abu winters have arrived with temperatures hovering between 5 and -4 degrees. Abuites get up to frozen gardens, cars, and two-wheelers. It’s too cold for me to venture out before ten.

This season, I’ve noted an upsurge in the number of White-eared bulbuls. Our local, the Red-vented Bulbul isn’t fond of the White-eared Bulbuls. At the moment, I am focusing my attention on observing the small birds; warblers, flycatchers, pipits, and buntings. I’ve posted some birds I captured yesterday. I cherish you, and appreciate seeing them as much as I have enjoyed photographing them.

Observing birds on Mount Abu in January 2022.

The weather was unpleasant from a birder's point of view, misty and damp, with the occasional drizzle. I did no birding this morning because of the low visibility and misty conditions. The weather opened up slightly around 1 p.m. The birds also made their appearance, and I was fortunate to get some decent shots of some birds. I hope tomorrow is a better day.

7 January 2022.

The morning was pleasant, with just a whisper of clouds. It was enough to do a spot of birding. By noon, the weather took a turn for the worse. I packed up my gear and headed indoors. Looking forward to the second week of January to cover our water bodies. Appreciate today's shoot.

Review of Migratory Birds, Last week of October 2021.

"HAPPY DIWALI FROM THE ABODE OF THE GODS"

I had hoped that many more migratory birds headed this way by the end of October. They will be here in mid-November. Warblers and a few flycatchers have landed. I have observed a few raptors, this year the Common Buzzard has increased in numbers., I have yet to observe and photograph the Long-Legged Buzzard, but I will probably do so by December. In my rare trips around Abu, I failed to see the stonechat and the usual pipits. My birding during this Diwali season will be low-key as the tourists will be here in large numbers. My regular outings and scanning of my favourite birding spots will be on hold until the rush departs from around mid-November.
