Mount Abu Birding: Late April Wonders

The Last Two Weeks of April 2025.

Mount Abu, a lush hill station in Rajasthan, continues to charm birdwatchers even as the migratory season winds down. During the last two weeks of April, birders will enjoy the mix of resident and migrating birds in this haven.

What you can expect

Migratory Birds

By April’s end, most wintering migrants have embarked on their long journeys back to breeding grounds. Despite this, you may still encounter the occasional Blyth’s Reed Warbler and other persistent species, creating brief, delightful moments.

Summer Migrants

With April, summer birds grace Mount Abu, including the striking Indian Golden Oriole, the musical Indian Blackbird, and the elegant Indian Paradise Flycatcher. These new arrivals paint the region with vibrant colours and the sounds of birdsong.

Resident Species

Mount Abu’s resident bird population remains a constant delight. From munis and finches to warblers and barbets, these steadfast inhabitants ensure that birding is never out of season.

Top Birding Tips

Choose Diverse Habitats

Mount Abu boasts varied ecosystems, including forests, grasslands, and rocky terrains. Visiting multiple habitats increases your chances of spotting a wider range of birds.

Rise Early

Early morning offers the best opportunity to see and hear birds, as they are most active and vocal during these hours.

Practice Patience

Birdwatching is as much about enjoying the process as it is about ticking species off a list. Slow down, pay attention to nature, and experience its rhythm.

Respect Wildlife

Always maintain a safe distance from birds and their nests. Avoid trampling vegetation or causing disturbances to their natural habitat.

Why April Birding Matters

While the peak birding season in North India spans October to February, April in Mount Abu holds its unique charm. A serene, fulfilling experience is offered by tranquil landscapes, quieter trails, and summer migrants.

So, grab your cameras and head to Mount Abu next April. With a bit of patience and an adventurous spirit, you’re sure to capture moments that linger long after the season has passed. Happy birding!
