Birding in March 2025: Mount Abu.

Happy Easter, folks, and happy birdwatching!

I’m back to recount a truly memorable birding adventure. On March 20th, 2025, I began the day with a quiet birdwatching session around the house. Later, Cres and I ventured to our favourite birding spot: the Duck Pond. The scene was quieter than normal, but we weren’t disappointed. The sight of three isolated ducks on the pond centred served as a reminder of the migratory birds’ return.

From there, we widened our exploration and headed towards Oria. The most memorable moment of Cres’s day was a unique and amazing event during her birdwatching. She witnessed and photographed the enchanting mating rituals of the Green Avadavat, also known as the Green Munia. It was a spellbinding moment, one that left her overwhelmed. Watching these elusive birds engage in such an intimate and rare display was a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Later that evening, we drove down to Cres’s home in Abu Road to prepare for the next leg of our journey. With an early start planned for the following day, we were eager to explore the wonders of Banas Dam.

As a special Easter treat, I’ve included photographs we captured during this incredible day. I hope you enjoy the collection!

To wrap up, here’s a festive message from the Abu Mascot—the Green Munias themselves—wishing all of you a Happy Easter! Fill your day with joy, and may your adventures be as rewarding as ours. Stay tuned for updates from our Banas trip, coming soon!
