There was a time in Mount Abu when the Long-billed Vulture/ Indian Vulture was resident in this place so were the Egyptian Vulture till the early late seventies, these species used to breed here. The Indian White-backed Vulture/ White-rumped Vulture was also a common sight. Today, to see a vulture in Abu is a great elation for birders of this region. The Himalayan Griffon is seen once in a way flying over.

Birds of Mount Abu in November 2018.

November is a great time to do a spot of birding in the hills of Mount Abu. The pleasant weather enables you to spend the entire day in the sanctuary's heart. All over the country, the winter migrants have arrived and birders are out birding for the feathered friends from afar. The time is ideal for birding in the 'Abode of the Gods'. The species that are worth bagging on your birding trip should include Bonelli’s Eagle, Alpine Swift, Booted Warbler, Verditer Flycatcher, Bunting, Black Stork, Gadwall, Northern Shoveller, Northern Pintail, Common Teal, Common Pochard, Tufted Pochard, Long-legged Buzzard, Common Buzzard, Steppe Eagle, Common Kestrel, Eurasian Hobby, Peregrine Falcon, Common Coot, Green Sandpiper, Wood Sandpiper, Common Sandpiper, River Tern, Black Redstart, Common Chiffchaff, Sulphur-bellied Warbler, and our local migrants such as Black-shouldered Kite.

I did do some birding this November till the 11, my faithful cameras went kaput on the 11 Nov. I sent it to Ahmedabad for repairs and only got it back on the 15 Dec. I'll post some highlights of some birds I was fortunate to photograph.

Names as King Crow. They attack much larger species including crows and birds of prey.

The smaller bird often nests in the well-guarded vicinity of a nesting Drongo.

The Black Drongo status in Mount Abu is unknown. The species is rare in this area, not commonly seen here.

Black stork - Ciconia nigra

The Black Stork, all black except for its white belly and armpits, be endowed with a red bill and red legs. It's a huge bird with a wingspan of almost 1.8 m. It's a winter visitor here in Mount Abu. Not a commonly seen species in this part of the world. Over the last few years, I have observed their numbers go up.

The Common Buzzard Status in Mount Abu is UNCOMMON. This species is considered a vagrant in our area. On 3 Feb 2019, a regular buzzard in this area came a scanning for his daily prey. Here are the snaps that I photographed on this day.
