Mount Abu Wildlife Sanctuary birds in Jan 2021.

Over the past three weeks, there have been reports of birds dying in various parts of the country in view of these incidents, Ashok Gehlot, Chief Minister of Rajasthan, has directed officials to be more vigilant in view of the death of crows and other incidents of bird deaths because of avian influenza in various states of the country and different districts of the state. Unusual incidents are being monitored in all bird sanctuaries, Sambar lake and other wetlands where large migratory birds congregate. Government has tasked all poultry operators to monitor the health of their birds. Be warned, do not approach "Dead or dying wild birds" it might infect them with avian influenza. H5N1 is highly contagious.

On the 7 Jan 2021, Mohan and self visited our favourite haunt, the Duck Pond, to take an account of our winter visitors. Birding went well, got the Blue Rock-Thrush, Black Redstarts, Bluethroat, White-eared Bulbul, White-browed Wagtail, White-capped Bunting and the usual ducks. Appreciate the observations and photographs presented.

Discovering the Hidden World of Birds Mount Abu.

“We look but do not see.” This phrase, often true for many of us, described me until just a month ago. That’s when I began observing the surrounding life—noticing the birds that share our spaces but so often go unnoticed. What I found was remarkable.

The diverse bird population surprised me in this isolated Mount Abu spot. What began as casual glances out of curiosity became an enriching habit of watching, identifying, and cherishing these feathered neighbours.

From early February 2014, I documented these birds in my neighbourhood. The abundance and variety amazed me, highlighting the beauty we ignore in everyday life.
